What benefits come when you simplify your life?

In today’s world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We are constantly bombarded with new technologies, new trends, and new challenges. It can all be a bit overwhelming at times. We're always on the go, and we often take on more than we can handle.

Simplifying your life can bring balance, freedom, and joy. By eliminating distractions and focusing on the essentials, we can understand what is truly important in our lives.

Less Stress

Simplifying your life can reduce stress by setting and focusing on one goal, multi-tasking less, eating healthy and exercising, detaching yourself from negative situations, and decluttering possessions and time commitments. These all help to create a more balanced and organized life, freeing up energy to tackle the tasks that are truly important.

Additionally, releasing yourself from activities and commitments that are not in line with your own personal values will help to reduce feelings of guilt and stress. By taking the time to focus on creating a simpler life, you will be able to lead a more relaxed and stress-free lifestyle.

Increased Happiness

Simplifying your life can increase happiness in a number of ways. By reducing the number of possessions you own, you can reduce the amount of time and energy you need to spend on them, allowing you to focus on greater values and goals. Cutting back on time commitments can lower stress levels and help you find the time for meaningful activities and relationships. Reducing goals to one or two can help improve focus and success rate in attaining them.

Increased Productivity

Simplifying your life can lead to increased productivity in several ways. Reducing the amount of time spent multitasking and instead focusing on one task at a time can drastically improve the efficiency of completing tasks.

Setting working hours for yourself and blocking your schedule to focus on specific tasks can help to keep distractions away and ensure that you are staying on track. Setting working hours, if you're able, allows you to find your most productive times of the day as well.

Finding the right productivity applications to use can help to free up time for more important tasks. Eliminating unnecessary tasks and learning how to better utilize your time will help to improve productivity.

Increased Focus and Intuition

Simplifying one's life by reducing the number of goals to one or two, decluttering, and cutting down on distractions can significantly increase both focus and intuition. If a person has more defined goals to work towards, their focus can be concentrated on achieving them. Similarly, cutting down on distractions and decluttering one's life can give one the space to be more present, allowing one to cultivate a deeper focus on what truly matters.

With fewer tasks and goals to think about, the human mind is given space to be more creative and intuitive. This can help one to develop better problem-solving skills and come up with more creative solutions.

Decreased Clutter

Simplifying your life can help reduce clutter in a multitude of ways. Eliminating unnecessary items and finding designated places for the things you use regularly can help clear up unnecessary mess and make it easier to maintain a tidy home. When you own less, you have less to manage and it takes less time and effort to keep your home clean.

Additionally, slowing down, getting organized, and simplifying your relationships can free up more time and energy to focus on the activities and people that bring you the most joy. By simplifying your life, you can create a quieter and more balanced space, and enjoy the peace and serenity that comes with it.

Improved Relationships

Simplifying your life can improve your relationships by helping you to identify bad friendships, allowing you to tell people “no”, and giving you the time and energy to spend with the people you love. By cutting out relationships that bring you down, asserting yourself, and taking the time to invest in quality relationships with friends and family, you can create an environment of positivity and mutual respect. This can help to build strong and healthy relationships that stand the test of time.

Greater Financial Savings

Financial savings is one of the most important benefits of simplifying your life. When you eliminate debt and create a budget, you can free up money each month that can be used for other purposes. This can help you save for retirement, vacations, or even just build an emergency fund.

For example, creating a budget and tracking your spending can help you understand where your money is going, and make more intentional decisions with it. Eating at home, planning your meals, shopping with a list, and practicing the 30-day rule can also help reduce impulse spending. Going paperless and automating your bills and payments can reduce late fees, and unsubscribing from brands can save you from being tempted to spend money unnecessarily.

Additionally, reducing energy consumption can lower your monthly bills. All of these actions can help you save money and build an emergency fund, giving you a financial cushion to fall back on in the event of an unexpected emergency.

All of these aspects will help you save money, and thus simplify your life.

Added Freedom

Simplifying your life is the key to gaining freedom and joy. By ridding ourselves of the excess and distraction in our lives, we can focus on the essentials and create balance.

We don't have to tackle everything at once, but by making small changes every day, we can experience big results in the long run. Removing clutter from our homes, getting rid of bad mental habits, and cutting out toxic people can all contribute to simplifying our lives.

When we simplify, we make room for more of the things that matter most to us, like spending time with those we love and taking opportunities that bring us closer to our goals. Simplifying our lives is hard work, but the freedom and fulfillment it brings are worth it.

Improved Health

Simplifying your life can lead to many benefits such as improved energy, better sleep, less depression, and less muscle and body fatigue. Eating healthy is also a great way to simplify your life, as it can help reduce medical needs over the long term. Exercising can help you burn off stress and feel better in the long run, also. To optimize your health and reduce stress levels, it is important to focus on the things that are most important to you.

Simplify Your Life

What things should you simplify in your life?

Living a balanced and joyful life can sometimes feel like a challenge. With the world, family and career demands, it can be hard to keep up while also finding time to take care of ourselves and our own happiness.

The good news is, there are ways to reduce the complexity of our lives and improve our well-being. By simplifying the things in our lives, we can focus on what matters most and create a more joyful lifestyle. In this section, we will discuss 10 important things to simplify in your life today in order to start living a more balanced and peaceful life.

Possessions

To start living a more balanced, joyful lifestyle, it is important to declutter the non-essential possessions from your life. Once you determine your core values and goals, it's easier to decide what possessions don't add value to your life.

Eliminating clutter and purging possessions helps free up your living space, allowing you to feel more at peace in your home. It also decreases the time spent cleaning and organizing. It allows you to see what you have instead of digging through crowded closets and storage spaces.

Information and notifications

We live in a digital age. On average, we spend 7 hours a day looking at a screen of some kind. Whether it be a TV, phone, tablet or computer.

Re-evaluating and limiting screen time and responding to notifications can free up time for real-life activities and social engagement.

Examples of information and notifications that should be simplified in people's lives include managing their inboxes, limiting screen time, and setting reminders.

Managing your inbox can be done by using the Two-Minute rule: if the task will take less than two minutes, do it right then and there. Otherwise, put the message in a designated folder to return to later.

Limiting screen time forces one to get moving and be more productive. Setting reminders for tasks such as paying bills, renewing license plate tags, or taking medications can make managing one's life much easier.

Clutter

Clutter is the accumulation of items that are not in a designated spot or place, and can be a source of stress and distraction.

It’s important to simplify your life by getting rid of anything you don’t use regularly or love and finding designated places for items you keep. This way, it’s easier to find what you need when you need it and put it away afterward. A landing zone can help keep your home clutter-free by having a designated spot for items that are used often as you come and go from it.

Owning less stuff also simplifies your life. The more you own, the more “stuff” you have to manage. When you own less, you have less to manage and it makes your home easier to clean and keep clean. This leaves more time available for the people and activities that are most important to you and bring you the most happiness.

As you can see, clutter and possessions are sometimes the same things.

Tasks and Activities

Assess your to-do list and eliminate tasks that are not important. Do one task at a time in order to simplify your life. If you have an overabundance of tasks (like work, for instance) automate, delegate, or hire help to complete them. Spend extra time doing things you love.

Look at all the activities in your life and drop those that are not in line with your 4-5 most important things. In order to live a happier life, focusing on activities that align with your core values and goals will improve your outlook and peace.

Sometimes, it's helpful to do a time audit. This is where you keep track of everything you do on a normal day. It can help you find where you can complete harder tasks, like when your focus is strong, and when to take a break or focus on smaller or menial tasks. You may also find extra time.

How to start simplifying your life

If you're looking to simplify your life and reduce stress, then you've come to the right place. In this section, we'll be covering some tips and tricks for how to start simplifying your life so you can create more space and freedom to focus on what's important to you.

From decluttering your home to creating a minimalist routine and more, we'll cover it all so you can start living your best life. So, let's get started simplifying!

Set a simple monthly goal

Setting a simple monthly goal can help simplify your life by breaking down larger goals into manageable chunks. It can help bring structure, clarity, and purpose to your life, allowing you to prioritize the things that matter most.

Changing the way you live and think won't happen overnight. By setting a simple monthly goal, you start changing your mindset. You will start to see the benefits of your changes in no time.

Evaluate your time

This is that ‘time audit' mentioned above. It's a good thing to evaluate your time regularly. I do a time audit every 3 months or so and when I feel like I'm not getting my main tasks done.

Evaluating your time is helpful whenever you may be overwhelmed by your schedule or you feel like time is getting the best of you. There are almost always ways we can adjust our tasks and change our schedules to free up time for ourselves.

Step-by-step instructions to evaluate your time and start simplifying your life:

  1. Make a list of the things you do from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep.
  2. Look at everything you’ve got going on in your life: work, home, kids’ activities, hobbies, side businesses, personal projects, etc. and think about which of these really gives you value and which ones you love doing.
  3. Evaluate whether they’re in line with your priorities. If not, eliminate the things that aren’t, and focus on what’s important.
  4. Drop those that aren’t in line with your priorities.
  5. Use the extra time to do things that you enjoy, things that are in line with your priorities.
  6. Let go of negative people and avoid FOMO: the fear of missing out.
  7. Put your phone away when with friends or family. Make a rule that the first person to check their phone picks up the tab.

Example:

My daily routine used to be extremely hectic and I felt like I was constantly busy but not really getting anything done. After evaluating my time and priorities, I found spans in my day were wasted on mindless social media scrolling. I started by eliminating unnecessary tasks. I also make an effort to fully engage with friends and family instead of allowing electronics to dictate my time with them. This allows me to free up some time to do the things I enjoy, like creating designs, listening to music, and spending time with loved ones.

Declutter your closet

Decluttering your closet is an easy way to simplify your life and save time and energy. By getting rid of clothes that don't fit or that you don't wear, you will have fewer items to manage and maintain.

You can also narrow down your wardrobe further and create a capsule wardrobe that you can easily mix and match. Choose quality over quantity to save you space and money. Instead of buying clothes you may never wear, focus on the items that you already have in your closet that you know you love and feel comfortable in. By decluttering your closet, you have the opportunity to free up space and create a wardrobe that will serve you better.

Follow a quick morning routine

A simple morning routine is a great way to foster positivity and set yourself up for success throughout the day. It is also a way to develop new, healthier habits to help simplify life.

Here are some simple yet effective habits to incorporate into your morning routine that will help you feel energized and positive.

Start your day by washing your face. Not only does this keep your skin clear, but it helps wake you up in the morning.

Create a daily to-do list and prioritize the most important tasks. This will help you stay organized and focused throughout the day.

Listen to calming music to start off your morning. This will help you relax and get ready for the day ahead.

Start an affirmation mirror habit. Choose “I am' affirmations to say to yourself in the mirror. Repeat them every morning to start a positive daily habit, build self-confidence and/or motivate yourself.

Take a few moments to breathe deeply and relax. This will help you slow down, de-stress and prepare for whatever the day throws your way.

By incorporating these simple morning habits into your routine, you can foster positivity and set yourself up for success throughout the day.

Create new habits

Habits are behaviors that we do repeatedly over time and become automatic. They are an essential part of simplifying our lives. It takes, on average, 66 days to form a new habit.

Habits help us stay organized and on track, freeing up our time and mental energy to focus on the things that really matter. By creating simple routines, we can reduce decision fatigue and streamline our activities.

For example, by setting a monthly goal and creating a morning routine, we can have a better grasp of our day-to-day life and be more productive.

Having healthier habits like drinking one gallon of water a day, making your bed every day, and reading for fun can also help to simplify our lives and make us feel better. We can also learn how to say no to things we don’t want to do, and break out of the cycle of materialism and consumerism. All of these habits can help us lead simpler and more meaningful lives.

Simplify work tasks

Having a long and busy to-do list at work can be daunting and can quickly become overwhelming. To simplify work tasks and make your life easier, it's important to plan ahead and prepare your items the night before. This eliminates unnecessary tasks in the morning and saves you valuable time. Additionally, you can use the extra time to meditate or read the paper to de-stress and relax.

It is also important to focus on the most important tasks and find ways to eliminate other unnecessary tasks. You can automate, eliminate, delegate, or hire help for tasks that are not important to the completion of the job. This will help to reduce the amount of time and energy you put into work tasks, helping to simplify your life.

Digital Clutter

Digital clutter is an ever-growing problem in our increasingly digital world. With our phones, computers, hard drives, and other technology, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the amount of “stuff” in our lives – both physical and digital. Thankfully, there are some simple, meaningful steps we can take to combat digital clutter and regain control of our lives.

First and foremost, you should try to clear your email inbox. Make this a daily habit, and you’ll soon enjoy checking your email again. It’s also a good idea to get rid of old phones and tech, as well as to clean up your phone’s photo storage. If you don’t use certain social media accounts anymore, you can delete them or just remove the apps from your phone.

It’s also important to purge old documents from computers and hard drives. It’s helpful to organize your computer home screen and to write down your passwords in case you forget them. You should also turn off notifications and unsubscribe from unwanted email lists.

In addition, it’s a great idea to declutter your contact list and to swap out your scrolling habit for something more productive. You should also turn off your phone for 30 minutes before bedtime and check your email only once a day. Limit TV and streaming consumption, and only follow those who have a positive impact on your life.

Finally, you should back up your important files, delete unwanted apps on your phone, and challenge yourself to a tech-free day. Consolidate your schedule and organize your apps into folders to make your life more efficient.

By implementing these simple steps, you can combat digital clutter and reclaim your life!
